Stroke A Chord 
A VOICE FOR APHASIA

​We are a choir of people who have had strokes on the left side of the brain and have loss of speech and language as a result ... BUT ... we are still able to sing. This is called "aphasia".
Music and speech are controlled by different parts of the brain.  While speech is managed by the left side, music and singing are controlled by the right.

OUR AIMS
... To have fun singing in a relaxed environment with other people who have aphasia.
... To support carers and survivors and encourage them to share similar experiences.  
... To educate people in the community about strokes and aphasia. 
...To promote the place of singing and music in recovery after stroke. 
... To encourage and support the creation of similar choirs.  

... ​The choir meets every week except for 6 weeks during the Christmas season.
... Members are asked to help set up and pack up after choir to the best of their abilities. 
... Choir members and carers are actively involved in decisions relating to the choir.
... The choir performs up to 4 times a year.  Members can choose not to perform. 
... Partners and carers are encouraged to attend rehearsals and performances.

WHEN: Every Tuesday from 12.45pm until 3pm
HOW MUCH: A small annual fee to cover ongoing expenses
