The parable of “The Tree”
In the summer of 2013, a seed was sown in a small hessian bag. In its own time, the seed sprouted to reveal a fruit tree in the making. Autumn came and the leaves fell. The Seed Sowers knew it could take 5 full years for the tree to fruit. Still, the wood remained green and two resilient green leaves gave hope. In 2014, the Seed Sowers took the bare rooted fruit tree and planted it in fertile soil giving it space to deliver on its promise. In the depths of winter, both understood that the young tree was vulnerable and may not survive the harsh climate without support. A decision was made to construct a framework around the sapling to secure it whilst it sent its roots deep into the earth to take in nourishment, stretch its limbs and feed new growth. The winter was indeed harsh but, tho’ lightning danced around its trunk, the tree was safe. In the spring, the Seed Sowers were joined by Landscapers and together they shaped the growth of the tree to produce five strong boughs. Seasons came, seasons passed, the tree flourished and bore such an abundance of fruit that Grounds Keepers were assigned to manage the space. The five strong boughs supported the dreams of the Community Gardeners and the inevitable gnarls provided footholds for those adventurous enough to climb. The tree afforded shelter as a whole new ecosystem of living creatures came to flourish because of the tree. MUSIC AND THE BRAIN FOUNDATION IS THAT TREE The roots anchor and ground the intent. The trunk carries the load above. The canopy reports daily on the health of the tree. The products sold are the fence which protects and secures its future. The five programs offered by the Foundation are the five strong boughs. The fruits, with their own potential to independently self-seed, are the community projects supported by those boughs. The Seed Sowers remain the Founders. The Landscapers are the Master Planners. The Grounds Keepers are the appointed Governors of the estate. The Community Gardeners are the people who continually discover new purpose in its structure, contribute to its growth, admire its vista or ... simply delight in the opportunity to hug or climb a bloomin' beautiful tree. |

Music To My Ears!
Seeing the joy on my father's face when he heard his favourite music coming from his new Encore music player was a real delight. Thank you so much!
